The Philadelphia Prison System is piloting a videoconferencing tool to let incarcerated mothers play a more active role in their children’s lives, Next City reported. The tool could allow mothers to virtually attend social worker meetings, which is instrumental in keeping families together, according to an expert quoted in the story.
One Philadelphia women’s prison, Riverside Correctional Facility, has used the tool for 10 months. Depending on how the pilot goes there, the tool could be rolled out across the city.
